i keep forgetting to post this blog up! so im doing it now before i forget again. ill make it short, i have to leave for work in 10 mins. :S

This is the original one. Just bluey/green stencil letters.
Now we get a little more creative, adding splatters (using uber cool brushes downloaded off the net) and making it look more like a real stencil piece.
Time to experiment with the dissolve option.
Oops, i dropped paint all over my graffiti! Bugger! Someone kicked dirt all over it.
Thats my attempt at being a fully sick graffiti artist. Well, a virtual one anyway.

Tricks of the Trade...

Things are getting tricker. I've typed notes from notes from the class if anyone missed anything.

Week 11 Fashion Communication - Digital Illustration Class Work.

1. Cut out figure with magic wand. Select and delete.
2. Copy figure onto new layer.
3. Name layers figure one original and figure two original.

NOTE: Put all figures for board in the same document. This will mean they are all in the one place, and when printing and working on them, you can turn off the layers you aren't working on.

4. Duplicate figure one 5 times, naming figure 1.1, 1.2 etc. We are going to alter all the duplicates and leave the original untouched.
5. Order layers if necessary.

NOTE: To duplicate a layer from another file, click on the drop down menu in the layers box and click layer duplicate. choose the document you want to copy the layer to.

NOTE: Right click on the area you want to work on, and a drop down list of layers will appear. Click on the layer you want to work on.

6. Add in a head. Either a scanned one or one from he internet.

NOTE: Pressing the space bar will turn the mouse into a hand. You can use this to navigate around the image.

7. Turn all layers off, other than your head and the figure you are working on.
8. Window; Brushes. Clock on the paint brush to activate it. This will bring up all different types of brushes. Experiment with brush strokes.

Creating your own brush
9. Select the area that you want. Edit;Define Brush Preset. It will now be in brushes.
10. In corner of brushes window, go to the drop down menu; save brush. save on usb. you will now be able to open this next time you use photoshop. Drop down menu;load brushes; find library and then click load.

11. Select the white areas of skin by clicking the contiguous box when on magic wand and go Edit;Fill and pick a skin colour.
12. To Shade, use the dodge tool to create lighter areas, use the brush tool again to create darker areas.
13. Use the bracket buttons to make the brush smaller and bigger.
14. Play with filters to create cool effects
15. Put the colour on one layer and the outline on a seperate one. this makes the outline clearer.

Concept Board Decisions

I have chosen my collage concept board.

This was a really tricky decision. I liked all my concept boards, but i felt that the quality of the creative wasnt great. it looked pretty cool, but as a source of inspiration i felt that the other two boards would do better. So the choice became between the template and the collage. i felt it would be easier to draw inspiration from the collage, as it had a larger range of images. how ever, the template portrayed the roundness of the stadium better, which could lead to different design ideas. feedback from the glass was divided, making this decision harder. i decided a range of images was more important leading to the choice of the collage. but depending on the designs i start making, i might switch to the template...

Oh The Joys of Scanning

Note to self: THIS IS HOW YOU SCAN AT UNI.

1. In Photoshop, go File, Import, HPScan Pro
2. In Applications, select Hewlett-Packard, HPScanjet Scanner, Scanner Preferences
3. Here, alter COLOUR and RES. and save as a PSF.
4. Scan
   

Descreening
So neither my scanner or the UTS scanner has the option for descreening, so its existence hasn't collided with mine yet. But i do know it can get rid of pictures that have a moire when you scan them.

DPI and Blogging
75 dpi looks just the same on a small scale like this, plus it uploads faster.

Architechtonic - Can it be more than angular lines and cold feelings?

So after searching for a piece of architecture that held an artistic statement, I became largely frustrated with the lack of bright colours and organic shapes. It then occurred to me that I was searching for life in a building. Right. So angular lines, geometrical shapes and cold greys palettes don't exactly fit in with my design ethic. Fitting the whole 'macro and mirco' thing in was also looking tricky. After long amounts of procrastination, I stumbled across a show called Art in Spain on ABC 1. The presenter was having a rant about future of spanish art and how he looked to architecture to foresee this. After a few building, he got to one that caught my attention, The Guggenhiem Museum Bilbao in Spain by Frank Gehry. This was a building that did have life; it curved in a free-form way and seemed like it was growing out of control. Best of all it still had a modern edge with its use of steel and inclusion on angles.

The macro and micro deal was hit bang on the head of the nail with the small intricate tile patterns vs the overall shaping of the building. I thought the Jeff Coons shrub puppy was pretty cute too.

The presenter made an interesting connection between the building and Picasso's 'Accordionist' painting. Need to look into this more.
